drun_dinokKarina (then Valeria) came from a decently well off family in a mid-sized village in the Jerall Mountains. Her parents and brother are quite alive, though as far as she's concerned they might as well not be. Her family attempted to teach her to be proper, but she would have none of it, getting into fights with other children, earning her scars she still carries today.
Eventually, she found herself wanting to explore, and at a young age she simply disappeared from her village, setting off with some stolen leather armor and a dagger. It was difficult, to say the least, but she was determined to make it on her own, doing odd jobs for enough money to eat and rent a bed.
A few years after this, she was caught by the guards of a village and sent home. Her family kept her away from people as much as they could, ashamed to have a daughter that was, in their eyes, a criminal.
Valeria couldn't take much of this, and soon escaped again. She spent a few more years wandering, and came up with the name Karina for herself, which ultimately meant nothing - which was fine by her. She didn't want to have remnants of her family's legacy around her.
Soon enough she was curious about Skyrim, and crossed the border. Unfortunately, she ran right into a Stormcloak camp. Unwilling to explain herself to people who were so anti-Imperial, she fled - right into Imperial troops, who assumed she was sympathetic to the Stormcloaks, since that was where she was coming from.
And the rest, as they say, is history.
